Artistry & the Artist
I live on the outskirts of Woodstock, New York. My home and studio look out onto the
beauty that is the Catskill Mountain/ Hudson Valley region. Year round I am inspired by
the mystery of the fields & flowers, hills & valleys, meandering streams & coursing
waterfalls.
I have been studying art as well as art history for many years. I attended high school at
New York's Art & Design. Throughout my college career I dabbled in further studies of
theory and technique. I have been designing jewelry for nearly 20 years.
My pieces are sought after by many of the countries finest stores, galleries and
collectors of contemporary crafts. Quite a few have appeared in major fashion
publications (Vogue, Mademoiselle, In Fashion, Sportswear International).
I have worked with stylists for Elle, Vanity Fair,MTV and VH1. My designs have
been purchased/ worn by Madonna, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Liv Tyler,
Angelique Kidjo, Cindy Crawford, Joan Osborne, to name but a few.
It begins when I hand-pick a wide variety of stunning and unusual precious and semi-precious gemstones. With a highly refined sense of color
and texture the stones are combined with an extraordinary palette of tiny glass beads, silver/gold and other natural elements. Each creation is
beaded, woven and knotted with the highest attention to detail, durability, fall and flow, whether the look is simple and graphic, or elaborately
elegant. The finished pieces take the form of necklaces, bracelets, pins and earrings. Some suggest natural phenomena, while others are
representative of a particular flora or fauna.
The "Winged Collection" is comprised of artistic beaded replicas of actual butterflies and moths. These winged creatures are a universal symbol
of hope, beauty and transformation. With thousands of species worldwide, the reservoir from which inspiration can be drawn seems endless. Each
piece in this collection comes in it's own "Riker Mount" (scientific display case) with it's Latin name and origin handwritten inside. The "common"
name is written on the back of the case along with a listing of stones and other elements used in its creation. These pieces are signed by the artist.
Although I do multiples of a particular buttefly/moth pin or necklace, no two are exactly alike due to natural variety in the stones used as well as
the fact that these are made freehand without the use of patterns or armature.
The Dragonfly portion of this collection is currently in development. It will explore the iridescent beauty of these fantastic creatures.
The "Naturescape Collection" explores the movement, color and tactile feel of natural elements and phenomena. The inspiration for this
collection comes from moonlit walks under starry skies, summer showers under mountain waterfalls, autumn hikes through the brilliant woods,
master paintings, etc. Each of these are one of a kind creations.
The "Snake Collection" has as its focal point, beaded snake skin patterns. These slink around the wrist or slither around the neck along with
beautiful stones and touches of bone and vertebrae.
The "Aquatica Collection" will dive deep into the underwater treasure chest. Fish, starfish, jellyfish, sea horses, anemones, coral reefs, seaweed,
etc will be swimming about with stones and shells.
